Men swim well, women add swimmer to OUA roster

The Carleton University Ravens hosted the University of Ottawa and Queen’s University at a swim meet Jan. 29.  The meet was the last chance for swimmers to qualify for OUA competition, scheduled Feb. 11-13 in St. Catharines.

Carleton’s Keegan Harris swam undefeated in the 100, 200 and 400-metre freestyle events.  Distance swimmer Mike Penny won the 400-metre individual medley and 200-metre butterfly.  Penny placed second to Harris in the 200-metre freestyle, in which both men broke the two-minute mark.

Rookie Greg McKay also placed well, winning the 100-metre backstroke, placing second in the 100 and 400-metre freestyle and coming third in the 200-metre freestyle.

Women’s team captain Paola Osorio led the women’s team, winning the 100-metre butterfly and 200-metre individual medley races.  Teammate Melissa Juergensen placed second in both the 50 and 100-metre butterfly events.

First-year political science student Amy Pouliot qualified for OUAs in the 50-metre freestyle and 50-metre butterfly races, increasing the women’s roster to 11 swimmers.
