Queens Invitational Swim Meet

January 18, 2005.

Men win meet, women place second

The Carleton University Ravens swim team sent 15 men and 13 women to Queen’s University for competition Jan. 15- 16.

The Carleton men were victorious, defeating Queen’s, Ottawa and York University by more than 125 points.  The women placed second overall.

Carleton’s men’s relay teams crushed competition, capturing first, second and third place in the 4 x 100-metre freestyle relay.

Most swimmers have not raced for almost two months.  The meet gave coaches a chance to see how swimmers are reacting to recent training.

“We didn’t expect great things, and were pleasantly surprised by many of the results,” said women’s head coach Lynn Marshall.

The Ravens’ last meet before Ontario University Championships is Jan. 29, at Carleton.  It will be the last opportunity for Ravens to qualify for OUA competition.

Thirteen men and 10 women have qualified for OUAs, scheduled Feb. 11 – 13 at Brock University.
